A hole in a metal roof system can be caused by any number of sources the hole may be from deterioration and rust or it may be from something falling onto the roof surface such as a large branch. Make sure you get one that is large enough to cover the entire affected area and one that is meant to be used outdoors. Make the final repair as soon as weather permits. The trick is securing it in place. Temporary patch jobs are only effective until the rain starts. Tiny holes in shingles are sneaky because they can cause rot a leaky roof and other damage for years before you notice the obvious signs of a leak. Covering the roof is the short term goal.
